How to use it
Turn a title or heading into a readable URL slug for free. The generator lowercases text, replaces separators with hyphens and normalizes accented characters while preserving Unicode letters and numbers. Your text is processed in your browser without an account.
- Paste a short, descriptive heading.
- Generate the slug and check the result in the context of your site.
- If replacing a published URL, configure a permanent redirect from the original URL.
Create a slug that describes the page
A slug is the readable path segment in a URL. Start with the page’s actual subject and keep the words useful to a reader. For example, “Crème brûlée” becomes creme-brulee; “A maker’s guide” becomes a-makers-guide.
The generator removes apostrophes, folds Latin accents, lowercases text and collapses separators into hyphens. Unicode letters and non-Latin combining marks are retained, so Japanese voiced characters and Devanagari vowel signs are not stripped. Review the result for your language and website routing conventions; the tool does not translate text.
Use stable URLs after publishing
Use the generated value as one path segment, not as a complete URL. Your application still needs to check whether the slug is already in use and to handle routing and URL encoding. This tool does not reserve a slug or inspect your website’s routes.
Avoid renaming an established URL just to add more keywords. If a published page must move, configure a permanent redirect and update internal links and its canonical URL. A descriptive slug helps readers understand a destination; it does not guarantee a ranking.

Frequently asked questions
- What makes a URL slug readable?
- Use concise words that describe the actual page, separated by hyphens. Avoid a string of repeated keywords or an unrelated title. The generated slug is a starting point that you should review in context.
- Does the slug generator support accented and non-Latin text?
- Yes. It normalizes Latin accents so crème becomes creme, while retaining Unicode letters, numbers and non-Latin combining marks. It does not translate text or transliterate every character into ASCII. Review the result for your language, and make sure your router supports the resulting path.
- Will this check whether a slug already exists on my site?
- No. The conversion runs locally in your browser without inspecting your site. Check uniqueness in your application before publishing, and use a permanent redirect if you replace an existing URL.
- Is this tool free and do I need an account?
- It is free to use without an account. You can copy or download the generated result from this page.
- Where is my input processed?
- Input is processed in your browser, without uploading, saving or adding it to the page URL.
