The idea
Most software directories are lists. A name, a logo, a category, and nothing about whether the thing is alive: whether anybody still ships it, who is behind it, or what happened after launch day.
IndieTools is built the other way round: around the products and the people building them. A product has a timeline: releases, milestones, whether it is for sale. A founder has a profile that connects the things they have made.
Where a founder connects their own analytics or repository, the numbers on their product page are theirs and are marked as such. Where they have not, the page says less rather than guessing.
Who runs it
One person: Cengiz YILMAZ. There is no team page because there is no team, which is worth knowing if you are deciding whether to send something here and expect a reply.
How it pays for itself
Two things, and both are visible to a reader when they happen.
- Featured placement is a paid slot, labelled as one, for a fixed period.
- Newsletter sponsorship is one sponsor per issue, marked as a sponsor.
Listing a product is free, and always has been. Nothing here is paid for by the people reading it.
